Our Story

Ohanas began after my dream of opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant evolved into a concept for a Hawaiian-influenced soul food truck. Our family had spent many years living in Hawaii, where we raised our daughters and formed a connection to the people, food, and culture. Inspired by our commitment to putting family first, treating people with love, and sharing our aloha spirit through food, we brought our signature bright orange food truck home to Lee Vining, California, where we opened for business in January 2014.

After several months of moderate success traveling around California and Nevada and opening for 2 days per week in Lee Vining, we moved the truck to June Lake in November 2014 and parked it at June Lake Brewing, which was our home for the next nine years.

Our first and only choice of name was Ohanas, and for our first 10 years of business we served Hawaiian-influenced soul food. Over the years, we have had a great time feeding the masses, doing a few festivals, and supporting our schools and community, all while expressing our love for our locals and regulars. We felt so blessed to spend 10 years sharing our passion with our community in the Eastern Sierra.

We always thought that our food should feel like a hug and that it should make you feel loved in a way that is comforting. This perspective led us to shift our focus toward wholesome, plant forward food that is cruelty-free, good for your heart and soul, and good for the environment. We have worked tirelessly to develop new recipes and find quality products to continue to create dishes that make you happy and keep you satisfied.

The next chapter of our story is not too far off now! We relocated to Susanville, California in October 2023 and plan to re-open Ohanas and begin serving our new community in the spring of 2024.

Hope to see you soon! Aloha!
